UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

      The Department of Ocean Engineering accepts students in two general groupings: those with fewer than 30 college credit-hours ("freshman students") and those with 30 or more college credit-hours ("transfer students").

Freshmen

Admission requirements:

      Students entering FAU with fewer than 30 college credit-hours must satisfy the Freshman admission requirements outlined in the FAU Undergraduate Catalog and are subject to the FAU CORE Curriculum requirements.

Graduation requirements
The Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering will be awarded to students who:

  1. Meet all Baccalaureate Degree requirements of the University, including the Core Curriculum requirements and Gordon Rule requirements stated previously in this catalog.

  2. Maintain a 2.0 grade point average in all engineering and science courses attempted at FAU with a minimum grade of "C" in any Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, or English Composition course as well as in Statics & Buoyancy (EOC 3105), Dynamics (EOC 3113), Thermodynamics (EOC 3141), Vibrations (EOC 3114), Fluid Mechanics I (EOC 3123), and Strength of Materials (EOC 3150). Ocean Engineering students may not elect the pass/fail option for any course.

  3. Satisfy the curriculum requirements listed below. However, since the curriculum is subject to revision, students should check with their Ocean Engineering Department advisor for the latest requirements.

Transfer Students

Admission requirements:

      Students transferring to FAU with 30 or more credit-hours are subject to the FAU's admission requirements and the FAU General Education Requirements.

Graduation requirements:

  1. Meet all Baccalaureate Degree requirements specified by the University.

  2. The Ocean Engineering technical course requirements for Mathematics, Science, Natural Science, Engineering Core, and Technical Electives are as in the course curriculum. These add up to a total of 109 credit-hours.

  3. Satisfy all curriculum requirements; however since the curriculum is subject to revision, students should check with the Ocean Engineering Department for the latest requirements.

  4. Maintain a 2.0/4.0 or better combined grade point average for all FAU courses.

The total number of credit-hours required for graduation 136.

      Students may not deviate either from the courses or the sequence of courses defined for the ocean engineering curriculum. In exceptional cases, deviations may be approved in advance by petition of the student to the Ocean Engineering Undergraduate Studies Committee. Courses taken in violation of this policy cannot be counted toward the BSOE degree.
